EMPRI had its humble beginning as the Environmental Training Institute (ETI) under Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) in the year 1996 with the assistance from Government of Denmark. Subsequently, it was renamed as the Environmental Management and Policy Research Institute (EMPRI), in the year 2002 with an enhanced mandate of organizing not only need based trainings but also conducting demand driven applied and policy research in environment management. It is an autonomous institute under the Department of Forest, Ecology, and Environment, Government of Karnataka, registered under the Societies act 1960. EMPRI is the nodal agency for Environmental Information System (ENVIS) in Karnataka and for Climate Change in Karnataka. This is the Third Conference being organized by EMPRI under DST Strategic Programmes, Large Initiatives and Coordinated Action Enabler (SPLICE) project titled, “Establishing /Strengthening the State Climate Change Centre under National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change (NMSKCC) in the state of Karnataka”.
